Deaf Rugby Australia tour to Melbourne
The Vic Masters will be hosting the Australian Deaf Rugby teams on Saturday 22nd February at Box Hill Rugby Club in a Gala Day to help them fundraise for their upcoming tour to Fiji.
Australian Deaf Rugby team was founded in Sydney over 15 years ago and is made up of players who are hearing impaired. The team is made of players both men's and women's and participates in tournaments around the world. In 2018, Australia hosted the Word Deaf 7s tournament which attracted nearly 200 players from around the globe. This gala day will help select players for this year's Fijian tour to represent Australia.
Rugby is built on respect and inclusiveness, and the Vic Masters are proud and privileged to have the opportunity to host the Australian Deaf Rugby teams. Joining us on the day will be the Melbourne Chargers - Victoria's premier inclusive Rugby Club and Women's Rugby Victoria.
Players will be from all skill levels from Beginners to experience and include some vintage veterans across Men's and Women's. If you are interested in playing or supporting the teams, please join us at Box Hill on Saturday 22nd February. Games will be a combination of 7's, 10's and 15's. The focus of the day is fun, enjoyment and respect. We will see players from all levels of our game, including beginners new to Rugby.
The Spirit of Rugby Matches will allow the abled hearing players to participate in the games using earplugs to understand the challenges faced by the Australian Deaf Rugby Players. We will be raising funds to support Australian Deaf Rugby and their upcoming tour to Fiji and will be auctioning off the playing jerseys to help with this mission.
Any players interested in having a run, please join our Facebook group or turn up on the day.
